Police Officer Recruitment
Dear Police Recruit Applicant
The City of Prospect Heights, located 12 miles northwest of Chicago, is a thriving community with a diverse population of approximately 16,000 people and covering an area of 4 square miles. With the Police Center 20 years old and a newly constructed City Hall facility, the City is developing at a rapid pace. The City of Prospect Heights offers opportunities for development and growth within its Police Department.
The decision to become a Police Officer should be made in conjunction with those who will be affected by the job. Being a Police Officer can be rewarding, but it also is demanding. Police Officers work unusual hours, including weekends and holidays. They tend to see more of the unpleasant side of life and the exposure to stress after a number of years can take its toll.
The Prospect Heights Police Department is among the finest in the area. It is the policy of the Prospect Heights Fire and Police Commission to extensively test and choose only the most capable and qualified individuals as officers who ultimately represent the City of Prospect Heights.
Sincerely,
Jerry Meyer
Retired FPC Chairman
Do you have what it takes?
The members of the Prospect Heights Police Department are dedicated to a community-oriented policing philosophy. To uphold this standard, qualified candidates must possess integrity and competence. Applicants will be required to successfully complete a comprehensive series of evaluations, which include a written examination, a physical agility assessment, an oral interview, a polygraph examination, an extensive background investigation, and post-offer psychological and medical evaluations.
How do I apply?
Testing services for the position of a police officer are done through the National Testing Network (NTN). To register with NTN and schedule a test, interested candidates should go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select ‘Find Jobs’, then select Law Enforcement Jobs and sign up for Prospect Heights Police Department.
Upon completion of the scheduled examination, the scores will be automatically forwarded to the Prospect Heights Police Department. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry-level examination will be invited to participate in an interview conducted by the Prospect Heights Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. Individuals who successfully pass both the written examination and the interview will be placed on an eligibility list. The Prospect Heights Police Department will subsequently contact candidates on this list to invite them to take part in the subsequent stages of the selection process.
